Day 2 : Arriving In Indianapolis

So Pittsburgh was pretty cold today. About 15 degrees when we woke up. We decided that the tank thing would be a bit too cold to enjoy and ended up finding out that they do not run their tours until April. We also decided we would bypass Columbus, Ohio and head straight for Indianapolis. That ended up being a 6 hour ride. We had discovered that my car actually has cruise control. We're both pretty excited about that considering we have hours upon hours of driving ahead of us.

Along the way, we noticed somethingn odd once we were out of the Appalachian area. There is really no way to explain it in a way that makes sense, but the sky looks bigger. A lot bigger. Clouds seem to go out further than they do on the east coast. I'm not sure if the pictures added will show it, hopefully they do to an extent.

Again we are using couch surfing for our stay. Shortly after we had arrived, our hosts, Lindsay and Josh took us to Downtown Indianapolis to eat at Yats. Yats is basically a creole type place. Most of the platters consist of some sort of chili/beans/rice type of dish along with flat bread to dip with. We are pretty sure that the Yats we went to was the first to open. We then checked out Luna Music shop. There were hundreds of vinyls with an interesting variety of music. Never thought I would see Biggie Smalls on a vinyl. Not that I ever wanted to.

After that we went and checked out a place called The Egyptian. It is a hookah bar, we ended up getting chocolate mint flavored tobacco. It was surprising that it does not irratate the throat at all. The ambiance of the place was probably its best feature.

Back at Lindsay and Josh's place we ended up playing a lot of Left 4 Dead (Xbox Game that is 40 times more fun than other Xbox games).

Indianapolis at first impression seems like a pretty great place. There aren't tons of skyscrapers blocking your view from everything. It feels a lot more open than Philadelphia and especially New York. It is interesting to see that and almost feels like there is less of a 'mask' on the culture due to that openess that allows you to see a lot of the city at once from most views. Also, a lot of the city is simply not very densely populated. When I think city, I think tons of tall buildings and busy roads, that just isn't the case with most of Indianapolis.

Tomorrow should consist of exploring and experiencing Indianapolis some more. The Zoo, and park (that I am unaware of the name of currently) have an fairly large collection of rare plants and gardens. Which from what I've looked into, are going to be fairly interesting to check out. We will also possibly be meating up with my friend Brooke, which will be very cool as well.

Pictures from today.

Seems much more peaceful and laid back. I'd be interested in what demographic of people the city leans towards. --Courtney
